I imagine those reading this blog are either newly admitted students to the Leeds School of Business, or are considering applying to the MBA program. Either way, I'll be blogging throughout the summer to give you an idea about what current Leeds MBAs and recent graduates are up to and report on what's happening in the Boulder community in terms of events, conferences, and the like!

So far...

Bolder Boulder
Although I have lived in the Boulder area for nearly 10 years, this was the first time I had been 'downtown' for the Bolder Boulder 10k race... in fact, it ran right by my house! Roughly 90,000 people participated in the festivities, (including many Leeds MBAs) and it was QUITE the site to see! I even had to run about 30 yards just to navigate through the crowd and cross the street for coffee! J

http://www.bolderboulder.com/site3.aspx

Summer Internship
The Summer Internship search has certainly highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of the Leeds School of Business! While many are utilizing a summer internship to find homes at companies they're interested in, others are leveraging connections they've made throughout the year to create their own consulting groups and further build relationships with companies across the Front Range. I will be 'reporting' more on what Leeds students are working on throughout the summer! It is incredible work!

Conferences & Workshops
Startup Weekend: www.startupweekend.com

Aspiring entrepreneurs and 'think tank' types gathered at the Leeds School of Business to toss out ideas and within 48 hours, see whether they were feasible. A few ideas generated that weekend resulted in start-up businesses that appear to be moving forward.

The LOHAS Forum: www.lohas.com/forum/

LOHAS, an acronym for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability, represents a market segment focused on health and fitness, the environment, personal development, sustainable living, and social justice. Many local business owners, entrepreneurs and business students gathered that the St. Julien in Boulder, Colorado, June 17-19 to discuss trends in the 'sustainable' business space and marketing channels, as well as make connections with both local and international sustainable business peers.

Coming up Next...
Boulder County's Green Building Conference, July 17 - 18... This is an exciting opportunity to join local green building professionals, sustainable practices students, and sustainability scholars to explore the latest trends in green building with the Boulder area and beyond.

Report on Leeds MBA Ladies Golf Club
Last week brought the first inaugural meeting of the Leeds Ladies Golf Club, designed to get current and past Leeds Lady MBAs together in a comfortable environment to learn golf or improve their games. The event was a success with eleven flagship members and we're looking forward to growing the club with the class of 2011!

I'm looking forward to sharing with you exciting updates and stories about what Leeds MBAs are doing over the summer and what the community has to offer!

Best,

Joni
